Adult Literacy Classes

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

    Provides an opportunity for individuals to develop the skills and understanding of the English language. Adults must be Oswego County residents, 16 years of age or older. Classes are located throughout Oswego County. Registration is ongoing and on-site. Documentation is not required.

    Adult Basic Education (ABE)

    ABE programs provide an opportunity for individuals to develop skills and understanding necessary to enter a high school equivalency program. Adults must be Oswego County residents, no longer enrolled in high school and 17 years of age or older. Books are loaned to the student. Registration is ongoing. Day and evening classes are located throughout Oswego County.

    High School Equivalency (HSE)

    Provides an opportunity for individuals to develop the skills and understanding necessary to pass the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam called the TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion). As of January 1, 2014, the TASC is replacing the GED® as the official HSE Exam for NYS. Adults must be Oswego County residents, no longer enrolled in high school and 17 years of age or older. Books are loaned to the student. Registration is ongoing. Day and evening classes are located throughout Oswego County. Home Study is available to those who cannot attend a regularly scheduled class. Students must meet a minimum requirement based on test scores and be 21 years or older. Registration for both programs is ongoing.
