Practical Nurses perform hands-on patient care in a high demand occupation. This program prepares students to work as a Practical Nurse in such places as home care agencies, nursing homes, physicians’ offices, hospitals and healthcare clinics.
The program is divided into two (2) phases. Phase one includes Basic Skills I and II, Drug Administration/Pharmacology, Anatomy and Physiology. Students learn through classroom, lab and clinical experiences. After the successful completion of Basic Skills I, students will sit for the New York State Nursing Home Nurse Aide Certification Examination in order to earn a certificate as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
Phase two of the program includes Medical-Surgical Nursing, Specialty Areas (Women’s Health, Mental Health & Pediatrics) and Senior Experience.

Completed application ($75 non-refundable application fee is required), two professional references, passing score on the Kaplan Nursing Admissions pre-entrance exam ($50.00 exam fee), interview with lead instructor (including writing sample), HS Diploma or GED®/HSE required. Please provide college transcripts, if prior attendance.
Up-to-date physical and immunizations, “CPR for the Professional” certificate, and students must provide their own stethoscope, watch and shoes. Computer with Internet access is highly recommended.
