CiTi receives top honors for safety
The Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation’s focus on safety has earned the organization a Titanium with honors level “School Safety Excellence Award” from the Utica National Insurance Group.
CiTi received a perfect score of 17,950 out of 17,950 in possible points awarded for criteria such as: safety policies and procedures, indoor air quality, all hazards emergency planning, construction projects, fire safety, vandalism and fiscal liability, among several other categories. The Titanium with honors level is the highest recognition the UNIG offers, and it comes with a $500 prize that CiTi’s Safety and Risk Management team plans to use for safety promotional materials for staff members and students.
“We want to have that safety culture engrained in students so they can pass that on to any future employment,” said Patricia Cerio, CiTi’s Safety Coordinator.
She, along with CiTi Safety Officer LeLand Dusharm and CiTi Administrative Aide Mary Anne Kirkpatrick, is credited with pulling together information for the 200-page safety report, required by the UNIG. Cerio said while the organization is ecstatic to receive the award in recognition of all of the safety efforts, the Safety and Risk Management office at CiTi is particularly proud of the bullying prevention program and safety committees.
CiTi is an 11-year award recipient of the “School Safety Excellence Award” and will strive to achieve that status each year. CiTi was one of 136 school districts and Board of Cooperative Educational Services throughout the state to receive such an honor. Honorees were recently presented with their awards at Utica National’s 37th annual school safety seminar.
