CiTi New Vision Partners with Syracuse Crunch
The New Vision program, offered by the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, is expanding opportunities with business partners in the community to offer real life, hands-on career experiences for students; the newest partnership being with the Syracuse Crunch.
This year, New Vision Specialized Careers connected with the Syracuse Crunch to host Keegan Finch for his rotation. Finch has been working behind the scenes throughout his time with the Crunch. He helps put on auctions and fundraisers, researches jersey designs for theme nights, counts player equipment, manages data for ticket holders and helps with fan engagement during the games.
Finch says, “This experience has given me invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a professional sports organization, showing me the diverse roles and responsibilities that contribute to the team’s success both on and off the ice.”
Finch plans on attending Syracuse University in the fall after graduating from Oswego City School District, pursuing a dual major in sports analytics and statistics. He has also worked with the general manager of the team, who is a former NHL player.
“These opportunities have not only been exciting but also eye-opening, giving me a deeper appreciation for the complexities of running a sports organization and inspiring me to pursue my goals in the industry,” says Finch.
During his time with the Crunch, Finch has been able to meet students that are currently attending Syracuse University for sports management or sports analytics. Connections with students have helped Finch gain an understanding of what to expect in college, how to network and has given him well-rounded knowledge about the sports industry.
The New Vision program at CiTi allows high school seniors to take college courses at SUNY Oswego while also participating in rotations, which are job shadowing opportunities that relate to a career field of choice.
