CiTi BOCES Announces Jeremy Belfield as New District Superintendent

The Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation (CiTi BOCES) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Belfield as its new District Superintendent. Belfield brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, curriculum development, and district administration, making him an exceptional choice to lead CiTi BOCES into its next chapter of innovation and excellence.

Belfield has an extensive background in educational leadership, most recently serving as the Superintendent of Schools for the LaFayette Central School District since 2017. Under his leadership, the district saw significant improvements in student achievement, graduation rates and curriculum development. He played a pivotal role in fostering strong relationships with the Onondaga Nation and led initiatives such as the My Brother’s Keeper program for Indigenous students focusing on college and career readiness, the OCC Advantage college preparation program and expanded STEM opportunities in partnership with LeMoyne College.

Prior to his tenure at LaFayette, Belfield served as the Assistant Superintendent for Management Services at Mexico Academy and Central School District, where he oversaw district-wide operations, budgeting and capital projects. His leadership ensured financial stability while enhancing student programs and improving district efficiency.

Belfield holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration, a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education, all from the State University of New York College at Oswego. His deep commitment to student success and passion for educational equity have defined his career.

“I am excited to work with the BOCES Board of Education, CiTi BOCES leaders and educators, leaders from component districts and the New York State Education Department to strengthen existing student programs and help to usher in new opportunities based on district needs,” said Belfield. “We stand at a pivotal moment in education in New York State with the recent work of the Blue Ribbon Commission. I see CiTi BOCES leading the way when it comes to innovative opportunities for our students to showcase what they know and can do for future employers and to help propel students towards success in their futures. I am truly grateful for this opportunity to serve students, school staff members and school districts in Oswego County.”

As District Superintendent, Belfield will work closely with local school districts, the team at CiTi BOCES and the New York State Education Department, bridging communication to support educational success and workforce readiness for the students of Oswego County. His expertise in fiscal stewardship, curriculum advancement and advocacy for equitable education will be invaluable in his new role.

The CiTi Board of Education conducted an extensive search process, holding twelve dedicated meetings to ensure a thorough selection. Starting with a diverse pool of fourteen candidates, the board carefully narrowed it down to six highly qualified individuals who advanced through multiple rounds of rigorous interviews.

CiTi BOCES Board President John Shelmidine expressed confidence in Belfield’s leadership, stating, “Jeremy’s extensive experience and dedication to education make him the perfect fit for CiTi BOCES. We are excited to see the positive impact he will have on our organization and the districts we serve.”

Belfield will officially assume his new role on July 1, 2025. In the shorter term, OCM BOCES District Superintendent and CEO Dr. Matthew Cook will serve from April through June as interim.
