CNY Innovators Shine at CiTi STEAM Design Challenge and Expo

The CNY Innovators Showcase, held on March 25, was a resounding success, bringing together some of the brightest young minds in Central New York to showcase their innovative solutions for modern classrooms.

The event, hosted by CiTi BOCES, featured a two-part competition that began in January, challenging students to redesign classroom essentials such as desks and chairs to enhance learning and comfort. After months of brainstorming, prototyping and refining their ideas, teams gathered at the STEAM Expo to present their final designs to a panel of industry experts.

The day kicked off with an inspiring speeches, setting the tone for an event filled with creativity and collaboration.

“As our world becomes more connected and more digital and more vision-driven, the demand for semi-conductors is growing exponentially,” said Kim Cherry Burnett, Ph.D., Social Impact and Community Engagement from Micron Technology, Inc., emphasizing the importance of STEAM education.

Students also engaged in a mini-STEM challenge and networked with local companies, gaining valuable insights into potential future careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

"This event was an incredible opportunity for students to put their problem-solving skills to the test and bring their ideas to life," said Oswego County P-TECH PBL Facilitator Gretchen Obrist. "The level of innovation and dedication we saw was truly impressive."

Judges evaluated each design based on creativity, functionality and impact on student learning. Several standout teams were recognized for their exceptional work, earning accolades and prizes.

The CiTi STEAM Design Challenge and Expo not only celebrated innovation but also provided students with a platform to connect with professionals and explore the future of STEAM education. The success of this year’s event has set the stage for even greater participation and ingenuity in the years to come.
