Health Careers Expo Connects Oswego County Students with Industry Professionals

Students from across Oswego County recently gathered at the CiTi BOCES Mexico campus for a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore the world of healthcare at the annual Health Careers Expo.

The event brought together 36 professionals from various health and medical fields, giving students a firsthand look at the wide range of careers available in the industry. Through interactive exhibits, live demonstrations, and personal conversations, students were able to gain valuable insights into potential career paths and the education and training needed to pursue them.

One representative in attendance was Oswego Health’s Human Resources and Student Program Liaison, Nicole Damboise, who emphasized the importance of connecting with students through events like the Health Careers Expo. "These opportunities give us a chance to showcase the incredible collaboration between our organization and the talented CiTi New Vision students, who bring such energy and insight from their shadowing experiences with our departments,” she said. “They help create an engaging, hands-on environment that makes healthcare careers come alive for attendees."

Damboise also noted the value of early workforce engagement: "I'm deeply passionate about workforce development, and connecting with students early on is key. The healthcare students coming out of CiTi BOCES are exactly the kind of future professionals we’re excited to welcome into our workforce."

Participating organizations included: Crouse Health, Menter Ambulance, St. Joseph’s College of Nursing, U.S. Army and Air Force medic units, Oswego Health, McFee Ambulance, Medical Examiner’s Office, Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network, Oswego County Opportunities, St. Luke Healthcare Services, Oswego County Health Department, YMCA, Upstate Medical University Nursing, Oswego County Department of Workforce Development, Mercy Flight, SUNY Oswego, Farnham Family Services, Cayuga Community College, Connextcare, ACT WorkKeys, and various CiTi BOCES programs.
