CiTi New Vision Celebrates Graduates About to Build Their Future

New Vision celebrated 69 graduating seniors at SUNY Oswego during the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation’s end-of-the-year ceremony.

Each student of the graduating class has spent the year enrolled at SUNY Oswego taking collegiate coursework while simultaneously gaining hands-on work experience shadowing at local businesses and industry.

New Vision alum Chelsea Giovo was invited as the guest speaker for the ceremony, sharing her experiences as a student and now police officer, and she encouraged the students to set goals for themselves that challenged them.

Pulaski New Vision graduate Presli McCarty also spoke at the ceremony saying, “Some of us watched police officers enforce the law and experienced the depths of the profession, some of us learned about the importance of teaching the youth and managing a classroom and others learned more about leadership and the interworking of communications. While each journey was different, they each contributed to our personal and professional growth.

The New Vision programs at CiTi are designed for high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in healthcare, law, public safety, government, engineering, veterinary science and more. The experience combines strong academics with real-life experiences at a variety of community rotation sites. In addition, the students receive 12 SUNY Oswego credits for four college courses, saving them around three grand in tuition.

Four students received the Dr. David Stern Most Improved Award: Abagail Balcom (Sandy Creek), Bridgette Fox (Pulaski), Dayle Ridgeway (Sandy Creek) and Abigail McCarthy (Pulaski). Eligibility for this certificate is for students that demonstrated improvement in grades, skills, work ethic, attendance, attitude and integrity throughout the year.
