Oswego County PTECH Hosts Team Building Event For Upcoming High School Freshman

Fifty incoming Oswego County P-TECH students participated in Oswego County P-TECH Cohort 10 Bridge Week, an event intended to get students acquainted with each other through team building exercises and explore P-TECH’s many engineering opportunities.

Bridge Week was held from July 7 to July 11, and was made possible by P-TECH staff and the Oswego County Youth Bureau’s Recreation & Youth Development Team. This group were also the first students to see the new ten-classroom P-TECH building space at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, which will have classrooms dedicated to makerspace, engineering, science, robotics, 3-D printing and computer labs.

The activities placed an emphasis on communication and collaboration. Participants were instructed to work together to build a structure designed to hold the most weight possible, as well as create and showcase a poster board demonstrating an interactive instructional lesson based on a topic of their choice. Networking and mentoring opportunities with both older P-TECH students and industry professionals were also available.

P-TECH collaborates with a number of well-known industry partners, such as Novelis, Huhtamaki, G.A. Braun, JMA Wireless, Felix Schoeller, EJ Company and C&S Companies, as well as partnering with Onondaga Community College providing the college degree earning component. Bridge Week benefitted both the P-TECH students and industry representatives, allowing both parties to form connections and prepare for the upcoming school year.
