CTE Job Fair - Student Interviews
Thursday, March 27, 2025 at CiTi Main campus in Mexico

Seniors in Advanced Metal Manufacturing, Auto Body, Auto Tech, Construction, Heavy Equipment, Electrical Technologies, and Welding will interview one on one with 3-4 different employers to learn about local companies, internship and employment opportunities.

Click each of the links below to become prepared for the event!

  • Go over your resume from top to bottom.  Is your phone number and address correct?  Is your email appropriate? Capitalize proper nouns, clean up the format.

Do you have additional skills or work experience?  Have you worked on a special project (in or out of school), participated in SkillsUSA or another club, earned an award? Are you a volunteer firefighter?

Share your Google doc resume with your teacher, CTaormina@citiboces.net & KRodriquez@citiboces.net

  • An interview is a conversation, not an interrogation. The interview should be a back-and-forth discussion, with both sides asking questions of each other to determine if you are a good fit for the company and position.

DRESS appropriately – be neat, clean, and dressed one step above the type of work. Get your clothes ready ahead of time!

Bring your resume, notepad, industry certifications, portfolio or relevant pictures.

DO: arrive 10-15 minutes early, greet the employer/handshake, maintain eye contact, thank the interviewer.

DON’T: chew gum, play with your cell phone, slouch, act distracted, overshare.

PREPARE: Research the company as well as interested positions; Review your resume and be prepared to explain things.

  • PREPARE for typical questions - Take your time and be thoughtful in responses. You will need to practice to become confident.

Tell me about yourself - Talk about your professional self: your training, skills, education, experience, and goals.

Why would you like to work here? - Explain what it is about the employer and position that appeals to you.  Avoid talking about money as the reason.

What are your strengths? – Do you have strong technical skills, an outstanding work ethic, excellent communication skills, a “can-do” attitude, willingness to learn? Do you get along well with others? Do you focus on safety and/or quality work? These traits are important!

What is a weakness? – What do you struggle with?  Is it something you’re working to improve/overcome?

Why should we hire you? - Be ready to support how you are a good fit for the company or the job. Do you have a passion for this line of work?  You may talk about internships or special projects.

What are your career goals?  Where do you expect to be in 5 or 10 years? Be honest and give your best guess.  Are you open to new pathways and opportunities that may arise?

Tell me about your work ethic?  Or what does it mean to have a good work ethic? Are you the person who shows up every day, on time, and works hard?

  • Don't be afraid to ask the interviewer for advice. They are industry experts and would like to help you succeed!

Ask about the company, specific jobs, training provided?

What does (a particular) job involve?

What is the typical shift/hours for this position?

Do you provide any training for the position?

Is there opportunity for growth or movement in the future?

  • RESEARCH companies to determine which ones interest you the most. Use their website, social media, and ask people who are familiar with the company. You will want to know who they are and what they do.

Gather information such as: Company Overview (Background & history), Products & Services (What do they do?)

Recent Projects or Achievements, Jobs & Open Positions within the company.
TAKE NOTES and write down questions for the interviewer.
