Oswego County P-TECH Students Selected for Constellation’s 2026 Youth Energy Summit
Oswego County P-TECH students Caleb McCarthy and Maddison Shaffer have been selected to attend Constellation’s 2026 Youth Energy Summit in Baltimore, Maryland this summer. The students will participate in the Level 1 track, which introduces participants to clean energy careers, industry professionals, and hands-on learning experiences connected to the future of energy.
In addition, several Oswego County P-TECH students have been invited to return for a second year through the Advanced Exploration Track, where they will continue building on the knowledge, skills, and professional connections developed through their previous Summit experience and participate in a job shadowing opportunity connected to the energy industry.
Constellation, in partnership with the National Energy Education Development Project, will host the fourth annual Youth Energy Summit in July 2026. The program is designed to inspire the next generation of energy leaders while expanding student awareness of clean energy careers and helping build a strong, diverse talent pipeline through hands-on learning, professional networking, and real-world industry exposure.
Since its launch in 2023, the Youth Energy Summit has engaged more than 120 students from Illinois, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas, with continued expansion into additional states. What began as a weeklong summer experience has grown into a year-round development journey. The program’s impact continues to expand, with alumni pursuing energy-related degrees and securing internships with Constellation. This summer, 12 former participants will join Constellation as interns.
Following nearly 300 applications, Constellation will welcome 85 students to the 2026 Summit across introductory and advanced cohorts. Fourteen students were selected from New York State, including five from BOCES P-TECH programs.
“We are incredibly proud of Caleb, Maddison, and our returning P-TECH students who have earned this opportunity,” said Brian Heffron, Administrator of Workforce Development and Community Relations for CiTi BOCES. “Their selection reflects the strength of the Oswego County P-TECH program, the commitment of our students, and the value of strong partnerships with industry leaders like Constellation. Experiences like the Youth Energy Summit help students see themselves in future careers that are directly connected to the needs of our region and the future of the energy workforce.”
The Oswego County P-TECH program provides students with a pathway to earn a high school diploma, college credits, and industry-aligned experiences that prepare them for high-demand careers. Through partnerships with local and regional employers, students gain exposure to career opportunities, workplace expectations, and the skills needed to succeed after graduation.
CiTi BOCES congratulates Caleb McCarthy, Maddison Shaffer, and the returning Advanced Exploration Track students on their selection and looks forward to seeing how this experience supports their continued growth as future leaders in the clean energy sector.
