Second-graders from APW Learn Blogging through CiTi Model Schools Program

With the help of the CiTi BOCES Model Schools program, second graders at APW Central School District have been learning how to use their computers by writing personal blogs.

Peri Nelson-Sukert, Instructional Technology Integration Specialist through CiTi BOCES, gives second grade classes a half-hour of technological instruction each week. These students continue to learn about the components of a computer and keyboard while practicing writing, grammar, punctuation and sentence structures.

Students are given prompts to help them come up with blog entries such as “Do you like snow, and why?” and “What did you dress up as on Halloween?”

“The benefit of this program is that students are learning how to use computers, an ability they will need in the near future, while specifically focusing on writing and typing skills,” said Nelson-Sukert.

The CiTi Instructional Technology Support Model Schools Program offers professional and curriculum development for teachers to successfully integrate technology into the classroom by providing lessons, materials and learning opportunities.
