Fine Arts Communities
-
Purpose:
Building on this year’s Enrichment Core Curriculum Community success, we are excited to share our expanded community offerings for the 2024-2025 school year. These targeted communities will provide Enrichment Core teachers the ability to collaborate with other like professionals (ie, middle school band, high school media arts, musical theater director) from across the region to take part in collaborative conversation, learning, sharing, and creation. These communities will provide focused support to those teachers that are often “on an island” and provide them with collaborative learning opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
Dates:
Communities will meet 3 times a year. We design the communities to be flexible as we know the life of a Enrichment Core educator and the changes that happen during the different seasons of the year. Community dates will take place on:
Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 - CNY/OC Teacher Center
Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 - SUNY Oswego
Thursday, April 24th, 2025 - Location to be annouced
Fine Arts Leadership Community
The Fine Arts Community is for all educators who seek to stay informed about organizational and curriculum supports in their schools. this community also fosters the development of leadership skills for those who are interested. It provides you with the opportunity to stay up-t0-date on IAAP, NYSED, community partners, standards, and content organizations that help us create opportunities and advocate for our programs. Additionally, this community builds a network for teachers to dialogue and collaborate on organizational issues within their own schools, developing thoughtful facilitation and problem-solving skills.
Art Community
Join us for three engaging art-making sessions designed to enhance the art teacher experience. Each session will feature a community artist who will share skills and knowledge on art-making experiences that you can bring directly into your classroom. Catherine Walsh from the Everson Museum will lead a session focused on sculpting experiences, while Kathleen Odell will guide us through the fun of illustration. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to work with Kate Ginney on classroom management and SEL strategies to enhance your art-making experiences. You won’t want to miss working with these fantastic individuals in our community, with one more surprise to come!
Music Community
Based on feedback, this year, each Music PLC will have a specific content focus. We will be joined by community partners who will share resources, along with NYSSMA Neurodivergent Chair Brian Wagner-Yeung, who will present on engaging all learners in the classroom with adaptive practices for special learners. We are also fortunate to have Kate Ginney and Megan Hook, who will facilitate conversations on SEL skills that lead into the Culturally Responsive Framework and more. These communities will provide teachers with the time to collaborate, explore resources, and connect with our local partners to enhance our music classrooms.
